Ausangate Trek 5D/4N
5D/4N
The 5-day Ausangate trek is completely different from other treks we have in Cusco, mainly because this trekking does not visit Machu Picchu. However, what stands out the most in this trekking are the natural attractions, which include beautiful snow-capped mountains, local people, lagoons of different colors, halfway through you will visit the Rainbow Mountain (the second most visited attraction in Peru) also the beautiful wildlife, such as llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas, Condor, Viscacha etc. In addition, you will walk through remote Andean villages that still preserve their traditions.

We will pick you up at 06:00 am from your hotel and drive by private transport for about 2 hours to Tinki where we will get off to stretch our legs and take the opportunity to visit the Tiki village where we will see people still wearing their typical clothing. Then we drive for about 1 hour on dusty and bumpy roads. Once we reach the beginning of our hike, we will have our delicious breakfast and then meet our muleteers. We will start the hike from Upispampa through many remote villages with many stream crossings until we reach the small village of Upis. The trail is almost flat with some ups and downs. We will hike for about 3 hours until we reach our campsite. Here we have our private cabins where you will spend the night. Our cook will prepare a delicious lunch. After enjoying our meal, you have the option to hike to Upis Lake, which takes 2 hours round trip. The trail to this beautiful lake is flat for about 40 minutes and the last 20 minutes is a gradual climb. Once we return from the lake, we will enter our cabins where we will have a chair to sit and enjoy tea looking at the amazing Ausangate through the window. Then we will have our dinner and go out to enjoy the first starry night that you will remember for a lifetime.
On the second day we will wake up early at 5:00 am with coca tea brought to your tent. Then we pack up quickly, enjoy a quick breakfast and immediately start hiking to Arapa pass which is uphill up to 4958 masl, then a slight descent to our lunch spot near Pucacocha lake. After having the delicious meal we keep walking uphill get the second pass called Pucacocha (5000 masl), then we will go downhill another two hours to our camp called Ananta. On the way we will appreciate different glacier peaks, rivers, small lakes, alpacas, local shepherds and llamas, of course you will always be with your guide who will explain the area to you.
On the third day we will also wake up early at 3:00 am with coca tea brought to your tent. Then we enjoy a breakfast and immediately start hiking to the Surini pass which is 5051 masl from where you can see the 7 color mountain in the distance. Then we go downhill to the circular lake and then continue walking uphill until we reach (rainbow mountain) where we will enjoy the amazing colorful mountains and its surroundings. then we go back down to our next camp called Alqatari where we have lunch and we have the whole afternoon free to rest for the next day.
We will wake up at 5:00 am with coca tea brought to your tent. Then, we enjoy a quick breakfast and immediately start hiking to the highest point of the Ausangate trail of our trip at 5300m called Palomani Pass. You will feel like you are in heaven, higher than all the other hikes in the entire Cusco region. You will appreciate the great canyons and valleys of the Andes, but be aware because some Condors might be flying nearby. You will be right at the foot of the Ausangate Mountain, which the locals consider the protector. Along the way, we will appreciate different glacier peaks, bubbling streams, rivers, small lakes, chinchillas, alpacas, local shepherds and llamas. Then we will walk downhill and pass through the villages of Huchu and Phinaya where we will have lunch. After our lunch we will continue our hike to our campsite which is called Jampa where we have dinner and spend the night.
As every day we wake up early at 5:30 am with coca tea in your tent. Then we start walking uphill for about 3 hours to reach the last pass at 4900m. From here we can appreciate some more glacial peaks and lakes and then we will descend towards the 7 lagoons where we will enjoy the beautiful landscape that the majestic Ausangate offers us. After enjoying the landscape of the 7 lagoons, we will continue walking to our lunch place called PACCHANTA where our cook and our muleteers will make our last lunch. There are some nice natural hot springs here in the middle of the mountain, so after 5 days of hiking you will love bathing in the hot springs and enjoying a beer and you will have the opportunity to buy some handmade crafts from the local people.
